Making a Tax Deductible US Donation
For those of you who pay income tax in the United States and wish for your contribution to be tax deductible, you may make contributions payable to:
Greater Houston Community Foundation
4550 Post Oak Place, Suite 100
Houston, Texas 77027
A notation on the check should state: "Margaret & Joel Shannon Charitable Fund". You will receive a tax receipt from the Greater Houston Community Foundation. While my wife and I cannot withdraw the funds in our foundation account, we can and will direct them to the Martinez Foundation.
For more information on the Greater Houston Community Foundation you may visit their website at GHCF. You are also welcome to call them (Emelda Douglas there is the person who investigated the Martinez Foundation for eligibility to receive grants) at (713) 333-2200.
If you prefer, you may mail checks directly to me and I will deposit them:
Greater Houston Community Foundation
3119 Avalon Place
Houston, Texas 77019
Those of you in the United States can set up your own account at a local commuity foundation, but because the Martinez Foundation is in Spain, it took some amount of time and due diligence by the Greater Houston Community Foundation to insure that the Martinez Foundation is an authorized entity to recieve grants from the community foundation. You should make sure that your commuity foundation is able to do the work to approve the Martinez Foundation, and has done so.
